Adding your name to the community endorsement for the GPLI is one of the easiest ways to help us protect our public lands for their beautiful scenery, wildlife, agriculture, and recreation values. The GPLI will use your signature to show local and state elected officials how much people care about Gunnison County's public lands.
Community Endorsement
Public lands in Gunnison County are a cornerstone to our lives. Public lands are critical for sustaining our strong economy, high-quality of life, ranching heritage, excellent recreational opportunities, abundant wildlife, clean air and water, incredible views, and intact landscapes. The Gunnison Public Lands Initiative (GPLI) is a coalition of diverse community interests who came together to create aproposal to safeguard public lands, protect our communities’ heritage, respect historic uses of public lands, support a strong and sustainable economy for Gunnison County, and preserve our quality of life for generations to come.
I support efforts to protect public lands in Gunnison County including the proposal drafted by the GPLI which aims to designate special management areas and wilderness on federal lands in the County. This proposal will require community involvement and compromise in order to be successfully implemented, and is necessary for protecting headwaters, valuable wildlife habitat, and unique backcountry recreation.
I urge public officials at the local, regional and federal levels to support the Gunnison Public Lands Initiative, as we do here in Gunnison County. Gunnison County residents represent a wide range of interests, and we sincerely thank Senator Bennet for working with the local community to explore long-term lands protection for Gunnison County and urge Rep. Boebert and Senator Hickenlooper to support the effort.
